Spotlight On: BRIDGET KEARNEY
ABOUT this week’s podcast guest + radio hour featured interview:
Bridget Kearney is best known as one of the founding members of Lake Street Dive, and is their bassist, vocalist, and one of the primary songwriters for the band. As an award winning and prolific songwriter and an artist who has always been musically adventurous by nature, Bridget has also been releasing solo albums since 2007 and involved with numerous side projects. Calculating a quick tally from her Wikipedia page I counted sixteen albums among those various projects, not including the eleven - soon to be twelve - albums she has recorded and written for with Lake Street Dive. Bridget, who is Iowa born and Brooklyn-based, is also an in-demand collaborator and has written for, toured with, and recorded with a growing list of artists like Ed Sheerhan, Margaret Glaspy, Aoife O'Donovan, Rodney Crowell, and many others. And somehow, she also finds time to teach instrumental and songwriting lessons, including a course at Princeton University. Bridget's third album under her own name just came out. It’s called Comeback Kid and like the multilayered meaning of the title, it is yet another fantastic showcase for the many sides of Bridget Kearney’s brilliance as a craftswoman of songs, her musicianship, and emotional range.
