Spotlight On: BRIDGET KEARNEY AND RACHAEL PRICE OF LAKE STREET DIVE
ABOUT this week’s podcast guest + radio hour featured interview:
It’s an amazing experience to watch a band grow. You know that special awe that you hear in a fan's voice when they say “I remember seeing them way back when they were playing at club XYZ and there were like twenty people there. Now they’re selling out arenas!” I have a feeling there is going to be a whole lot of that kind of excitement this year for fans of Lake Street Dive. And especially because this band has grown steadily with its dedicated audience over two decades and now eight albums, there is a strong feeling of having built up to this moment together, both within the band, and with their community of fans. Formed in the mid-2000’s at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Bridget Kearney, Rachael Price, Mike Calabrese, and former member Mike “McDuck” Olson joined forces while studying jazz. But while many college bands fade out after graduation, Lake Street Dive got signed, and moved to New York City. Over the years they have become a massively successful touring band, made up of virtuosic players and writers, who have also succeeded in staying close friends and chosen family, who keep finding new ways to grow together creatively and sonically. Their new album is their most collaborative effort to date, and appropriately titled Good Together. As Lake Street Dive prepares to kick off the next leg of their biggest tour yet, including their headline show at Madison Square Garden on September 14th, we’re celebrating with an encore presentation of their interview from June of this year, when they first released Good Together. I’m thrilled to welcome back Bridget Kearney and Rachael Price of Lake Street Dive as this week’s SHEROES in the Spotlight.
