Spotlight On: NEKO CASE
ABOUT this week’s podcast guest + radio hour featured interview:
As I record this, I’m getting ready to head back to Newport Folk Festival where once again SHEROES will be live in conversation with a special guest and recording interviews backstage. I was reflecting on last year’s conversation with Neko Case recorded live at Newport, and all the things she was working on that are now coming to fruition. She has recently announced her first book, The Harder I Fight The More I Love You: A Memoir, which arrives on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. She also announced a tour and word is out on the musical you’ll hear her allude to - it’s a stage musical version of the film Thelma and Louise that is in the works from book writer Halley Feiffer with music by Neko. We may not have been on the lam, but Neko and I had a wild ride to the Foundation Stage at Newport last year. Neko got stuck in some terrible traffic, and had a crowd waiting at the stage where we were already supposed to be for our live taping. My friend Billy Glassner of Newport Folk Festival came to the rescue and we took the fastest 1.5 mile ride on a golf cart I’ve ever been on, picked her up from the entrance to Fort Adams State Park and back to the foundation stage where we had a fantastic chat for the remaining minutes of our time slot. But less than 10 minutes wasn’t nearly enough to catch up on everything, so luckily, Neko was gracious enough to join me backstage to continue our conversation. We brought the two parts together to share with you as we bring you an encore presentation of Neko Case as our SHERO in the Spotlight.
