Spotlight On: BACHELOR
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
For decades now, in nearly every genre of popular music, you can find a long list of supergroups and collaborations. Nothing is more thrilling to music fans than hearing artists they love come together. Their sound combines into something new, yet somewhat familiar. The indie rock world exploded with excitement at the news. Of course, it is both, and on their debut album Doomin’ Sun, their individual talents as musicians, songwriters, and producers shine through as much as their mutual admiration and friendship. As we celebrate the release of their debut, Melina Duterte & Ellen Kempner join us as Bachelor, this week’s SHERO in the spotlight.
Our playlist features new music from a new track “Like I Used To” from the collaborative efforts of Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen as well as a brand new one called “Nightflyer” off of Allison Russell’s debut solo album Outside Child, that just came out on 5/21. Plus more new music from Ambar Lucid, Joy Oladokun, and Japanese Breakfast.
SHERO BIRTHDAYS:
We celebrate three SHERO birthdays this week; Allison Russell and I, Carmel celebrate our birthdays on Sunday, 5/30. And on Tuesday 6/1 and Brandi Carlile turns 40.
This week’s Radio SHERO:
Kari Hedlund from Northern Minnesota public radio KAXE / KBXE spins a track from Dessa, a fellow Minnesota SHERO and current hip hop icon. The song is “Terry Gross” and for Kari, it’s got all the 90’s nostalgia needed to send her back in time.
