Spotlight On: AMY HELM
ABOUT this week’s podcast guest + radio hour featured interview:
Born in Woodstock, New York, and raised between Woodstock and Los Angeles, Amy Helm has been performing since she was a teenager and began her recording career singing backup vocals on a 1993 album by Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, and joined her father’s band, The Barn Burners. In the early 2000’s, Amy co-founded critically hailed band Ollabelle, released its first album in 2004, and recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. Amy made four albums with her band, Ollabelle, worked with her dad, the legendary Levon Helm, to build The Midnight Rambles, co-produced and played on his Grammy-winning comeback album, Dirt Farmer, and toured with The Midnight Ramble Band. Since Levon’s passing in 2012, Amy released her solo debut in 2015, and now has returned with her fourth album, Silver City, recorded at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, and once again produced by Josh Kaufman, as was her last album, 2021’s What The Flood Leaves Behind. This new album sees Amy Helm stepping more into her power than ever, and focusing on generational voices of women, as she weaves in stories of her own life as a single mother, artist, and touring musician. I am so thrilled to welcome back Amy Helm as this week’s SHERO in the Spotlight.
