Spotlight On: KATHLEEN EDWARDS

ABOUT this week’s podcast guest + radio hour featured interview:

As we near the end of 2024, and stand on the precipice of 2025, we’re looking back at the year that was as much as we’re anticipating the year ahead. For music heads, that means year-end “Best Of” lists, and starting to look forward to all the new releases and tours that are already being announced. Way back in March of this year, I was at SXSW and was lucky to spend some time chatting with Canadian singer-songwriter, Kathleen Edwards who was there performing. It was a big deal for us Kathleen Edwards fans that she was there. In 2014 she stepped away from music after releasing her 2012 fifth album, Voyageur, and opened a coffee shop called Quitters. In 2020, Kathleen returned with her first album in eight years called Total Freedom, unfortunately right at the start of the pandemic, thereby cutting short any plans for touring and her comeback. When I caught up with Kathleen in the spring, she also mentioned a collection of covers, which she has since been releasing as a series of singles and later in today’s episode, we will get a sneak peek at the newest single, which is an R.E.M cover she will be releasing on Wednesday, December 11th. And we’ve now learned that her sixth album produced by Jason Isbell will be coming in the new year. Plus a ton of tour dates have been announced for 2025 as well. Now if you’ve listened to our recent special Joni Mitchell series, The Road to Joni, some of this conversation may sound familiar - it was in this interview that Kathleen unknowingly brought up Joni Mitchell, while the idea for creating a series was just a tiny seed beginning to germinate. As that unexpectedly became a key part of our first episode of The Road to Joni, the remainder of that interview has been saved in the SHEROES vault. So before we close the books on 2024, with a brand new Kathleen Edwards single coming this week and excitement building for a new year with lots of Kathleen Edwards music and a tour, I’m so happy to finally share the rest of that conversation with you, as we put Kathleen Edwards in this week’s SHEROS Spotlight.
