Spotlight On: SASAMI
ABOUT this week’s guest:
Sasami Ashworth, better known as SASAMI, is a classically trained musician and composer who, over the last decade, has become a critically hailed artist known for her shapeshifting and impeccably crafted solo albums - her diaristic 2019 self titled debut, and 2022’s Squeeze, which saw SASAMI embodying a more rage-filled, heavier rock and metal aesthetic. That album landed on multiple year end best of lists. An insanely talented guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter and performer, SASAMI got her start playing french horn in orchestras, and graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2012. She has scored and written orchestral arrangements for films, commercials and studio albums, and worked as a music teacher in Los Angeles, where she was based until a recent move to Northern California. In 2015, she joined the band Cherry Glazerr playing synths and touring with them for two and a half years before announcing her departure in 2018 to pursue her solo career. Sasami’s highly anticipated third album, Blood On The Silver Screen, is yet another brilliant new sonic exploration, this time into pop music, almost conceived as miniature soundtracks to a series of cinematic stories, themes and characters. This week we celebrate the release of Blood On The Silver Screen and welcome back SASAMI as our SHERO in the Spotlight.
