Spotlight On: THE STAVES
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
The musical path of Camilla, Jessica, and Emily Stavely Taylor, better known as The Staves, seems almost charmed. But when you hear their singing, you can understand how they were always destined for success. Growing up in Watford, England, the trio began performing at open mic’s in local pubs while they were still young teens and before long released a series of EP’s starting in 2010 and two more that came the following year. The major labels came calling almost immediately, and they signed with Atlantic Records. 2012 brought their first full-length album Dead & Born & Grown, produced by Glyn and Ethan Johns, and the album If I Was, was produced by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and released in February 2015. Now with five studio EP’s, three live recordings, and a beautiful collaborative album with yMusic to their names, The Staves are back with a long-awaited studio album, called Good Woman, just released on Friday February 5th, and Camilla and Jessica joined me from their home in the UK to talk about the new album, their journey, and being a good woman.
Our playlist features new music from tUnE yArDs, NYC collective MICHELLE, and indie rock queen, Juliana Hatfield. We also celebrate two SHERO Birthdays this week: Roberta Flack is 82 on Wednesday 2/10, and Carole King is 79 on Tuesday 2/9.
The Radio SHERO of the week is Cindy Howes from WUNC Music in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and she closes the hour with her guest DJ pick “Lucid Lucy” by Sunny War.
