Spotlight On: HANNAH JOY of middle kids
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Five years ago the Sydney, Australia trio Middle Kids put out their self-titled debut EP, which quickly garnered critical attention and radio airplay both in Australia and in the States. Led by singer, songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist Hannah Joy, Middle Kids found a US record deal by 2018 with Domino and released their full length debut, Lost Friends. That album debuted in the top 10 in Australia, was nominated for the Australian ARIA award for Best Rock Album, and won the prestigious J Award for Australian Album of the Year. It also put them out on the road all over the US playing festivals and shows. The EP New Songs For Old Problems followed in 2019, and now, a fantastic second full length album, Today We’re The Greatest has just been released, and finds Hannah Joy in a new and more confident phase of her journey - one that began as a quietly passionate classical pianist, now embracing motherhood and her role as an artist and band leader.
Our playlist features new music from newcomer Hannah Jadagu, a track from Flock of Dimes amazing new album Head of Roses, and the first new music in six years from Australia’s Hiatus Kaiyote.
This week’s SHERO birthdays include Sarah Vaughan (3/27), Norah Jones (3/30), and Emmylou Harris (4/2).
