Spotlight On: SHIRLEY MANSON
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Shirley Manson grew up in Scotland, surrounded by music, and started playing instruments at a young age. Her music career began in her teens as a backing vocalist and keyboardist in a band called Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie, which after a decade evolved into Angelfish, with Shirley as its frontwoman. A member of Garbage happened to see their music video, she was invited to join the band, and the rest, as they say, is Herstory. Since their self-titled debut album came out in 1995, Garbage became a hugely successful, multi-Grammy nominated band, and remained a mainstay of alternative rock, and Shirley Manson’s career has expanded to include acting and in recent years, hosting a podcast. And of course, she is an absolute icon. As Garbage has just released their seventh album, No Gods No Masters, we welcome Shirley Manson as our SHERO In the Spotlight.
Our playlist features new music from Torres, something from the newly released Sleater-Kinney album (Path of Wellness), and another single off the upcoming second album by Billie Eilish.
