ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

When talking about Liz Phair, you would be right to use the words Feminist Icon. With her hugely influential 1993 debut album, Exile In Guyville, she single-handedly changed the game in terms of what women in Indie Rock could say and do. Between 1993 and 2010 Liz Phair released six albums, was nominated for two Grammys, and then started writing music for TV and film, while continuing to tour. Her memoir Horror Stories came out in 2019, and at long last, her seventh album arrived this year, called Soberish, her first In eleven years. Liz Phair is this week’s SHERO in the Spotlight.

Our playlist includes new music from Lucy Dacus and Wye Oak, plus the band SAULT returns with Little Simz on the track “You from London” off of their new album Nine.

SHERO BIRTHDAYS:
We celebrate four SHERO birthdays this week! Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso turns 33 on 7/2! Happy birthday to Fontella Bass on 7/3, Joan Osborne on the 8th. And Adrianne Lenker turns 30 on 7/9!

Demi Harvey of Indie 102.3 in Denver, Colorado still can’t get enough “Numb” from Sylvan Esso’s last album Free Love. Demi joins us this week to spin that track just in time for Amelia Meath’s birthday on 7/2, and as she notes, as a “pregame” for when Sylvan Esso comes to Demi’s home Denver in September!
