Spotlight On: TORRES
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Raised in the religious South in Georgia, and fresh out of college in Nashville, Mackenzie Scott began recording and releasing albums as TORRES in 2013, and pretty immediately began gaining widespread critical attention for her powerfully raw voice and visceral lyrics. Mackenzie also became known for her incredible live performances, and soon moved to Brooklyn, got a record deal and was touring with some of her own SHEROES including Brandi Carlile, Tegan and Sara, and Sharon Van Etten. A killer guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, she’s been releasing an album every couple years since then, with the exception of her newest and fifth album Thirstier, a fast and exciting follow up to 2020’s Silver Tongue.
Our playlist includes new music from Arlo Parks, Wye Oak, Little Simz, and new indie-rock duo Wet Leg. Plus a brand new track from Charlotte Day Wilson featuring BADBADNOTGOOD called “I Can Only Whisper”.
SHERO BIRTHDAYS:
We celebrate the SHERO birthday of Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses who turns 55 on 8/7!
This week’s Radio SHERO: Jade from our affiliate The Current in Minneapolis joins us to share her guest DJ pick, a brand new track called “Magnolia Blues” from Adia Victoria, just out today.
