Spotlight On: LAUREN MAYBERRY of Chvrches
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Scottish Musician Lauren Mayberry grew up listening to everyone from Whitney Houston to Alanis Morissette, to Jimmy Eat World and Depeche Mode. She began playing drums and singing backing vocals in bands in high school, before meeting and then joining forces with Iain Cook and Martin Doherty in 2011 to form CHVRCHES, becoming their lyricist, lead vocalist, percussionist and keyboardist.
Their critically hailed debut EP Recover arrived in 2013 and the full length debut The Bones of What You Believe came soon after in that same year. CHVRCHES has since been nominated for multiple awards including a BRIT Award and NME Award. Their success continued when the album Every Open Eye came in 2015, and Love Is Dead in 2018.
This week, CHVRCHES has released their much anticipated fourth album Screen Violence. In this special extended SHEROES interview, we’ll talk about the new album, feminism, as well as take a look back at Lauren's journey a decade in with CHVRCHES, as Lauren Mayberry joins us as this week’s SHERO in the spotlight.
