ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

Bomba Estéreo is a Colombian duo which got its start back in 2005 in the capital city of Bogotá, with musician, beatmaster and producer Simón Mejía joining forces with Li Saumet. Hailing from the Caribbean coast, her unique blend of traditional Cumbia sounds with rap, Bullerengue, and indigineous influences backed by Simón’s sonic palette of electronica, Colombian folk, techno and tropicalia became Bomba Estéreo’s calling card, and earned them worldwide acclaim, seven Latin Grammy nominations and two Grammy nominations, including one for their 2017 fifth album Ayo. Now back with their sixth album, Deja, which delves even further into themes of connecting to mother nature, roots, and spirituality that earlier albums touched on, Li Saumet is finding more strength and feminist empowerment than ever in her role as frontwoman and lyricist, and bringing in more women to collaborate with her, including SHEROES alum Lido Pimienta. Li Saumet is this week’s SHERO in the Spotlight.

Our playlist includes new music from Pom Pom Squad, plus a new Moby remix of “Black Myself” by Amythyst Kiah.

SHERO BIRTHDAYS:
