Spotlight On: HATCHIE

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

Australian singer, songwriter, bassist and multi-instrumentalist Harriette Pillbeam, aka Hatchie was born right about the same time that shoegaze and dream pop were born, with albums like My Bloody Valentine’s 1991 landmark shoegaze album Loveless, and the 1990 dream pop classic by the Cocteau Twins, Heaven or Las Vegas. It's fun to imagine that Hatchie came into the world right on time in 1993, that somehow the musical DNA of that era found its way to her and planted a seed that grew into her own sound. Hatchie released her first single “Try” in 2017 and it reached the top of the charts in Australia. She was signed shortly after and her debut EP Sugar and Spice arrived in 2018. Keepsake followed in 2019, and now, Hatchie’s latest high water mark has been released; it’s called Giving the World Away, and we welcome Harriette Pillbeam AKA Hatchie as this week’s SHERO in the Spotlight.

Our playlist includes new music from Sharon Van Etten, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Lava La Rue.
