Spotlight On: MADISON CUNNINGHAM
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
You may have heard the term “artist’s artist” before. It usually refers to someone who is so brilliant, so visionary, that artists themselves become superfans. These artists are ones whose names you hear spoken with hushed awe, accompanied by that feeling of being let in on a secret that will soon become an excited “I knew her when…” Well, Madison Cunningham is an artist’s artist. She’s a self-taught guitar & songwriting prodigy who grew up in a family self-described as sheltered and religious, in Southern California, and was homeschooled, only performing music in the church. Secular music didn’t make it to her ears until her late teens, at which point her own music burst forth like a dam breaking. Having had no reference points other than her own creativity to guide her in those formative years, Madison's sound comes from a uniquely pure and authentic place. Her 2019 debut album Who Are You Now was nominated for a GRAMMY, as was an expanded version of her 2020 EP Wednesday at this year’s GRAMMYs. Ahead of the unveiling of her sophomore effort, Revealer on Friday, September 9th, we’re thrilled to have Madison Cunningham as this week’s SHERO In The Spotlight.
Our playlist includes something new from Beyoncé off her recent album Renaissance.
