Spotlight On: AMELIA MEATH (of Sylvan Esso + Mountain Man)

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

As one half of the duo Sylvan Esso, Amelia Meath is a singer, lyricist, and producer, and fronts the band with her husband Nick Sanborn. She is also one third of the trio Mountain Man, which she formed in college with Molly Sarle and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig. As a socially conscious feminist and openly queer person, Amelia has recently found her perspectives and priorities shifting to racial justice and equality, and the interconnected nature of white supremacy and misogyny. In this thought-provoking conversation, Amelia Meath not only shares her musical journey with us, but also deep reflections on where the feminist movement has been and how we can and should be re-thinking its future.

Our playlist features new music from Dawn Richard, a brand new indie-rock collab from Jay Som and Palehound called Bachelor, just-released Julien Baker, something from the upcoming fifth Lake Street Dive album Obviously, and Molly Burch in a team-up with Wild Nothing.

This week’s SHERO birthdays include Eleanor Jackson of La Roux who turns 33 on 3/8, and Neneh Cherry, who turns 57 on 3/10.

Finally, our Radio SHERO of the week, Kari Hedlund from one of our newest affiliate stations, KAXE/KBXE, joins us to share her guest DJ pick “Bloomsday” by Samantha Crain.
