Spotlight On: LUCINDA WILLIAMS
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Lucinda Williams was born in 1953 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to creative parents - her father was a literature professor and published poet and her mother was a pianist. So no wonder that the worlds of words and music would combine to produce a singer songwriter who picked up a guitar at age twelve, inspired by a historic era of 60’s folk, rock, jazz, and political activism. Now over forty years into a career that has seen her become known as one of the greatest living American songwriters, Lucinda won her first Grammy in 1994 for her self-titled third album. Since then, Lucinda has won two more, including one for the masterpiece Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, and now has fifteen studio albums and fifteen Grammy nominations to her name. Two of those nominations are for her latest collection, the 2020 album Good Souls Better Angels, and the ever prolific Lucinda Williams is also in the midst of releasing a series of cover albums, called Lu’s Jukebox. It's a true honor to shine the Spotlight this week on Lucinda Williams.
Our playlist includes new music from Cat Power and Mitski.
